Capturing the Family

Booking a grandparents photoshoot will be one of the best decisions you'll make. It holds immense significance as it captures the essence of intergenerational love, wisdom, and cherished memories. It is beyond special. I am always so happy when families get in touch with enquiries regarding booking a shoot with a mix of generations.

I have a special relationship with my own grandparents and one of the things that they have always loved doing is showing me the albums storing all the old family photographs, proudly mounted, sealed and captioned with the date and names of who is in the image. In recent years it has become even more important to me to capture the older generation within my family, and the relationships they have with the family because it seems increasingly poignant that they won’t be here forever.

Getting prints of your Grandparent Photoshoot also make the most special gifts for all members of the family. With an increase in digital memories, people forget how absolutely gorgeous photographs look when printed at high quality, something I offer as a service. Grandparents in particular will appreciate this, due to their understanding of photography being primarily a physical image to hold.

The Value of Photographs

When someone passes, often one of the first things we might do is to look for an image of them. It is the closest we can get to a physical reminder of who they were, their presence in the world. Whatever photographs you create with me, will stand as investment in your memory of each other further down the line. The connections your children have with your parents will be something that in years to come, you look back on and hug yourself for capturing.

These photographs become timeless treasures that not only depict the bond between grandparents and their grandchildren but also serve as a testament to the family's history and heritage.

Grandparents stories are often not the ones we focus on in modern day. We are very focused on the future, and the world our children live in. By photographing them together, we preserve some of their story and give it the value it deserves in being told. It is a way to honour their love, capture their legacy, and create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Booking a Photoshoot

When I book a Grandparents photoshoot, often I ask whether the parents themselves are wanting to be involved, therefore making it a large group photoshoot, or whether it is purely for the grandparents and the children, meaning often it is simply the same as a regularly family photoshoot.

If there are more members involved, we normally allocate more time for the photoshoot itself, so that no one feels rushed or bewildered. It allows us to relax into whatever environment we are in and fully enjoy the time of the photoshoot, so that it in itself provides a memory for you all.

Grandparents are often amazed at the images that come out of themselves, often because they don’t actually take any photographs of themselves in day to day life - not like the rest of us do. It is such a modern day thing to relentlessly capture the world in which we live, and so try and imagine that the photographs we capture on the day will hold even more value to your grandparents/parents. It is a gift to you, a gift to your kids and a gift to your parents.
